Description: For anyone who needs long-term, furnished housing in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico about twenty minutes from UPR (using a personal car):
Hiram and Bibiano Rivera have two, wonderful apartments available for long-term rentals in urbanizacion Monte Carlo in Rio Piedras (just off Avda 65th Infanteria). I stayed in one of these apartments during a recent research trip.
Each apartment has two bedrooms--so go ahead, bring your family--a kitchen, full size refrigerator, dining area, living room, and one bathroom. There is also a large patio for evening chats. You may do laundry there as well. Finally, off-street parking is available, too. There is one AC unit per apartment, located in the bedroom. Otherwise, each room--kitchen, living room, and back bedroom--has a ceiling fan.
The apartments comprise the second floor of Mr. Bibiano\'s house and are located on a tranquil street. The neighborhood sits right behind a huge government housing complex and the immediate area around the complex can be a little seedy. And, a few mangy dogs roam around, but if you have a car, these won\'t be problems.
This past June, I paid $1100 for the entire month--a great deal in tourist-rich Puerto Rico. I was also about 10 minutes from a well-stocked Pueblo (on Avda. Campo Rico), Walmart, and Sam\'s Club--located in Plaza Escorial. From the apartment, it\'s easy to catch major highways out of metro San Juan.
